So Ironic, Our Parents

I strongly agree with Justin, a 17 years old student from Temasek Poly regarding his opinion of ironical behaviour display by some parents.

On one hand, they complain to the government about the pressure of our education system on the otherhand, they pack their children's after school timetable with tuition & extra classes, hence perpetuating the very system they are speaking out against.

Parents need to make up their minds as to what they truly want for their children & the values their children should hold dear in life.

Honestly, like many young parents, I was once also trapped in that situation. I remember then, my single male colleague passing the remark when I complained to him about the pressure I was facing as a mother who has to balance career & family. He said "pressured" parents were the ones creating problem for themselves since they were the one always co-operating with our government when they raise the standard of examinations to keep pace with our kids' intelligence because our school going children were getting smarter & smarter. Why so? Parents are always arranging more tuitions & enrichment programmes hoping to see that their kids can outsmart their peers in exams.

Dear parents, so it is actually time to change our mindsets. I had, long ago. Have you?

More Time & Money for Baby

The recent slew of incentives offered by our Singapore Government to try to encourage more Singaporeans to tie the knots & that more married couples to make more babies surely must be a real bonus for those who are already planning to start a family.

Of course, no one would get married or have a kid just because of the incentives, but if you are thinking of doing either, they do make it a lot easier for you to take that next step.

Any married couples who are still pushing back their datelines in starting familiies because of tight work schedules or career plans better think again now before they realise it is too late. Or starting families after much delays, then many years later looking at other joyful couples enjoying their family time with their grown up kids where else the late starters will only find themselves still running around tending to their young kids needs.

Lasting Parenting Joy

There is nothing as exciting, fulfilling and joyful as becoming a parent. From watching our babies turn into a toddlers, school-going teenagers, young adults & becoming parents themselves. Feeling the joy of watching them stepping out of every stage of their lives.

Many think that the joy of being parents fades away after our children turns into teenagers? Not true, it will not happen if you don't let it happen. With our unfailing, tender love & "friendship" all the way, our children will know where to turn to when they need that place for shelter. They will always know who they can trust, confide with & to share in good times or in bad times.
